Dakota(Jovovich) is a down-on-her-luck prostitute that lives in the apartment next to
Jake(Washington). Unfortunately, the walls are thin and Jake can hear her nightly
business, and her pains. Dakota is engaging with one of her clients, faking
pleasure as Jake tries to drown out the noise by bouncing the basketball against the
wall. Milla is a wonderful comedic actress, and Spike Lee uses this trait accordingly
with this very somber, but sadly funny scene. It uplifts the viewer from the bleak
experience just enough to provide time for consideration.
