Unlikely as it seems, Hank (Thorton) and Leticia (Berry) find some
connection in their sadness and depression. Like a drug, sexual intercourse
is used as a "quick fix" whereby the participants are relieved of their pain
and taken to a high, if only for a brief moment. Yet this time, Hank and
Leticia might find something more satisfying and longer-lasting, perhaps
even a resolution.
Vanessa L. Williams turned down this role because of the frontal
nudity, but the movie would have lost a significant statement had the sex
been removed or simply "faded out". Here, it is necessary to show the desperation
in the individuals involved and the outcomes.
