Still a bit groggy from a night of hacking, Stan (Jackman) heads to the
pool to find Ginger (Berry) and ask her for a small favour. She greets him warmly
with a smile and her bare chest, a pleasant and unexpected surprise that momentarily
destroys his concentration. He quickly pulls himself back together and asks Ginger if
he could borrow her car to visit his daughter. She readily agrees and leaves him with
some advice on his attire before he heads off, still a little dazed by the brashness of
the people that took him in.
At first seemingly gratuitous like many scenes in the movie, the very nature
of gratuity comes to question once again in this sequence. Berry's nudity serves no purpose
at first, but becomes clearer in hindsight once the movie is finished. The goal is to deceive,
misdirect, and confuse. That is what Gabriel (Travolta) does for a living, and that's certainly what
Ginger is doing to Stan.
