Shaken by the murder of the transit official, Willie (Phoenix) comes
home in disarray and agitation. His fiance Erica (Theron) doesn't know
what he has done, but wants to unwind his nerves and offers him
some intimacy. At first he doesn't feel in the mood, but
eventually gives in. Looking at it from a feminist's perspective, the scene
seems to convey the conclusion that men simply can't say no to sex. On the contrary,
Phoenix' character really doesn't want to make love to Erica, but he does so to
keep the horrors of the murder out of his mind.
