Making a somewhat unusual request, Rose (Winslet) asks Jack (DiCaprio) to
draw her like the other women in his sketchbook. Disrobing, she lies
naked on the couch, wearing nothing but a faint smile and the "Heart of the Ocean"
around her neck. Although strongly attracted to her, Jack is more intent
in his work. To the elderly Rose (Stuart), it was one of the most memorable
moments in her life. Delicately executed, the scene plays two key roles: it explains
the only other evidence of the blue diamond's existence aboard the ship, and creates
a non-physical intimacy between the two characters, suggesting that Rose is no more
a person than he is despite her higher social class.
